Travels in North Carolina with a new Leica

2/28/2019

Wow. Oof. It's been a while since the last blog update... Oops

About a month and a half ago, I picked up a Leica M-P (Typ 240) from guy in Dallas. Bloody brilliant camera. I'll do a more in depth review on it at some point as I've been shooting with it non-stop.

Back at the end of January, Katie and I headed to the Carolinas to visit her side of the family. Here are some of my favorite photos from the trip. All taken with the Leica M-P (Typ 240)

One of the days out there, we went hiking at Crowder State Park in King's Mountain, North Carolina. Brought some additional lenses for the hike. In addition to the Canon 50mm f/1.2, I took along the Voigtlander 15mm f/4.5, the Nikkor 28mm f/3.5, and the Canon 135mm f/3.5.

I'm really liking the way the Canon 50mm renders color and out of focus areas. It's also super easy to have lens flairs with, and they look great. After the hike, we headed back to the family's house, played some music, ate good food, and ended the week with some family photos.

Had a great time seeing family and spending time with everyone. The new Leica is wining as a travel camera, and I can't wait to go on more travels.

Just loving the character of that 50/1.2 LTM lens, I only managed to get the 1.4 version in the condition I wanted, works nicely with the M-E Typ 240.

Thanks, Adam. It really has such a unique character. Enjoy shooting with your 50mm and M-E 240!

Thanks Scott. The first and last picture are especially good.

In my "Sony days" I had bought the 1.2 three times, two with unremovable haze and one that cleaned off nicely but with a lot of cleaning marks on the front.
If the timing wasn't so bad (or if I had more patience) I could have gotten one mint lens assembled from two copies, but it wasn't to be.
And the original hood was really unique-looking.
Same luck with the 50/1.5, which is also wonderful but even harder to get.
The 50/2.2 which I really want to get a good copy of, highly overlooked, not the sharpest but wonderful handling and character.

I still have the 28/2.8, 35/2 and 85/1.5 which are great and the 135/3.5, sharp, built like a tank and dirt cheap. Canon LTM lenses are awesome!
Cheers!

Thank you.

I think this 50mm 1.2 had haze when I bought it, but I was able to clean it. It seems like a common problem with these older lenses.

I'll have to look into the 50mm 2.2. I don't think I've ever seen it.

That's a nice line up of lenses you've got. The 85mm 1.5 is a seriously nice and hard to find lens. I've got the Jupiter-12 35mm 2.8, but I've been debating about picking up a fast 35mm for the M-mount. I was originally looking at either the canon 35mm 1.8 or the voigtlander 1.2. It's crazy how sharp some of these LTM lenses are. They are indeed awesome!
